The Satellites - Crash Landing
El Toro Records

These boys from Outer Space have returned or should I say crash landed to Earth with a brand new album, Crash Landing. I had the pleasure of listening and reviewing their previous album The Space Sessions, and listening to their latest, I have to say they haven't slowed down yet.

The opening song “Hot Rockin’ Night” is a real bopper, a short song under two minutes but gets the album started and ready for lift off. We get some upbeat rockin’ bluesy number with “Baby, Honey, Sugar” where you’re not gonna be able to stop your feet from moving. Keep those feet moving to the next song “There’s Place in Space”, the Space-A-Billy sound I love from these guys. I mean it’s just a solid Rockabilly sound, but you know, involving Outer Space (where these guys are actually from). They slow things down with “Homeless”, a cool track that will have you snapping your fingers, I mean there’s nothing cool about being homeless, however this song is quite cool. We get back to rockin’ the dance floor with the song “Make No Love”, with a real nice guitar lick, that will get your jiving. “Fly High” is a soaring rockabilly number, and again will get you dancing to the moon, okay enough space puns but it was needed. “The One I Adore” will get the shoulders and hips moving, again another rockin’ song. Are you tired yet? Well “Gargoyle” changes things up, almost like Space-Blues? I dig this song a lot, very cool with the harmonica just sounds so right. After all that Rock ’n’ Roll and Blues, we get “Silvermoon”, a nice light hearted song that will have you riding your car (or space ship) with your girl to the nearest drive-in movie theater, with your arm around her while watching a 50’s sci-fi movie. I really like this song and has a nostalgia feel. Now we get the hilariously titled “Space Boobs”, a fast moving song that gets you up and going. They close out the album with “Oh Baby Baby”, a real rockabilly number, ending with a bang!

What I like about The Satellites, is while they have the outer space theme, they never let that stray from making good music while other bands who would do a similar theme would focus on the gimmick and not the music itself. These are some talented fellas and hope they invade Earth sometime soon to play some gigs around the United States, but for now you can catch them at a show in Europe. It seems everything from Outer Space seems to always crash in Europe. Oh well, look up in the skies and you might see these guys or better yet, just pick up this album at the El Toro Records online store!
